Fibers
Nylon - The most durable and stain-resistant carpet fiber available. It is the fiber of choice for homes with pets and children, as well as people who frequently entertain. Nylon is perfect for heavily trafficked areas such as hallways and stairs.
Polyester - Known for its luxurious look and feel. It also comes in a wide selection of colors and styles. Polyester is a good value for homes with normal traffic.
Olefin - Offers stain and moisture resistance, but it scores below nylon and polyester for wearability. While it can be a good choice in loop pile construction, olefin’s colors and styles are limited.
Wool - Favored for its natural beauty, wool has natural soil-resistant qualities but is not inherently stain-resistant. Wool looks good for a long time and is well constructed.
Triexta - A bio-based fiber from Dupont under the brand name Sorona®. The production of Sorona fiber requires 30 percent less energy than nylon, and 37 percent of the material comes from renewable resources. Carpets made out of Sorona offer great durability, a very soft feel and excellent stain resistance. Triexta carpets are also made by Mohawk Industries under the brand name Smartstrand®.
